Self-Directed Learning

At Tattva Swayam, learners take charge of their own journeys. Every child is encouraged to follow curiosity, set personal goals, and explore subjects at their own pace. This independence builds ownership, confidence, and a lifelong love for learning—skills that go far beyond textbooks or exams.

Real-World Connection

Learning at Tattva Swayam extends beyond classroom walls into farms, gardens, and open spaces. Through programs like the TS Farming Program, children experience the rhythm of nature, understand sustainability, and rediscover their bond with the earth—cultivating empathy, responsibility, and awareness.

Critical Inquiry

Every question matters here. Through Socratic discussions, projects, and Philosophy for Children (P4C) clubs, learners explore ideas about ethics, purpose, and human values. This nurtures critical thinking, deep reasoning, and moral clarity—essential traits for thoughtful, responsible citizens.

Inclusive Growth

Tattva Swayam is designed for every kind of learner—those who thrive in traditional schools and those who don’t. Its inclusive, flexible approach celebrates differences and provides individualized pathways to success, ensuring that every learner feels seen, supported, and capable.

The DNA of our learning programs

At TS, we believe that deep, meaningful learning happens when curiosity is nurtured, exploration is encouraged, and learners are empowered to take ownership of their journey.

Our programs are designed to support learners across developmental stages, providing a rich and responsive environment where inquiry, creativity, and reflection guide the learning process.

Our open learning design abides a living, dynamic curriculum following the frameworks suggested by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the The National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023. It allows learners to follow their interests, think critically and creatively, build meaningful connections. It is designed to develop essential 21st century skills, and allow learners to grow as thoughtful, engaged individuals with a strong sense of self identity and image.

A mission to liberate learning

Beyond Rigid Structures

Our mission is to liberate the landscape of learning and restore the robust sense of self. We offer a flexible, choice-based philosophy that evolves with the learner, empowering young people to discover their purpose through rigorous, self-directed engagement.

Agency Over Compliance

We equip learners to become independent, lifelong thinkers by teaching critical and reflective thinking skills. Every learner is given the agency to choose what they learn and how they are assessed, preparing them for future workplaces with courage and confidence.

Mentors, Not Managers

Our approach liberates the role of the educator. Our staff are Facilitators and Mentors—NOT traditional teachers. They act as Co-Creators of Knowledge who focus on building relationships and doing what matters most.

Discovering Potential

We liberate the learner from the "one-size-fits-all" model. As an Open Learning Resource Centre for ALL children (including those with special needs), we implement an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). This intervention strategy is customized by experts to completely understand and support the learner's unique gift or challenge.

Liberating Learning to Life

Our mission liberates learning from the textbook and connects it to real lide. We actively address the 'Nature-Deficit Disorder' and promote Earth Stewardship.

Tattva Swayam is not a conventional school—it’s an open resource learning centre in Bangalore where children learn through real-life experiences, projects, and self-directed exploration. Instead of rote study or rigid classrooms, learners connect ideas with the world around them. We follow the vision of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) to make learning more flexible, meaningful, and personalised.

Yes. Tattva Swayam learners can pursue recognised academic pathways through NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) or international boards such as Cambridge. Our facilitators guide each learner in choosing the right route based on interests, goals, and pace. Every programme aligns with NEP 2020 and NCF 2023, combining academic depth with real-world learning.

Our centre welcomes learners from diverse backgrounds—children who are homeschooled, those looking for alternative education in Bangalore, or families seeking a more holistic and flexible approach. We also work with learners who may not fit comfortably within standard schooling models and those who wish to explore creativity, entrepreneurship, or environmental learning.

At Tattva Swayam, every day is a blend of structure and freedom. Mornings might begin with reflective circles, followed by hands-on work—science outdoors, art in the studio, or group discussions under the trees. The focus is on curiosity-driven learning rather than rigid timetables, so each learner’s journey feels personal and purposeful.

We use portfolio-based assessment instead of marks. Learners document their work through journals, project records, videos, and exhibitions. Facilitators provide feedback through dialogue and observation. When learners are ready for formal certification, we support them in preparing for open board exams. This approach builds real understanding and confidence rather than exam stress.

Parents are active collaborators. They join as mentors, volunteers, and resource guides, sharing skills from their own fields. We host parent-learner dialogues, showcase events, and community gatherings that help families stay connected to each child’s journey. Learning at Tattva Swayam extends naturally into home and community life.

Outdoor learning is at the heart of our philosophy. Learners engage in field explorations, farm visits, citizen-science projects, and nature journaling. They learn math through measurement trails, ecology through gardening, and social science through community mapping. As an open learning centre in North Bangalore, we treat every environment—urban or natural—as part of our classroom.
